Austria's padel scene is small but growing fast. The Austrian Padel Union counted 36 courts at its member venues in 2020 and 274 by the end of 2024, and it expects 20 to 30 new facilities a year (APU activity report 2024). The International Padel Federation's World Padel Report 2025 puts the total at 327 courts across 120 clubs.

Competitive play is growing just as quickly. Austria had about 600 padel players in 2020; by the end of 2024 the APU ranking list alone held more than 6,460, and its members ran 1,627 tournaments that year. Austria uses its own skill rating, the Austrian Padel Number, which runs from 1.0 for beginners to 8.0 for professionals and decides which tournament category you enter.

Two organisations run padel. The APU works jointly with the Österreichischer Padel Verband, Austria's member of the International Padel Federation. The Austrian Tennis Federation added its own padel tour in 2026, the ÖTV Padel Series, with seven stops from April to October.

Who governs padel in Austria?

The Austrian Padel Union (APU), a padel-specific body that works jointly with the Österreichischer Padel Verband (ÖPV), Austria's long-standing member of the International Padel Federation. The APU runs the national ranking, the Bundesliga and the national teams. The Austrian Tennis Federation also has a padel department and started its own ÖTV Padel Series in 2026.

It changes with every ranked match, and tournament categories are set by APN range. A new competition code and points system took effect on 1 September 2026.
