Choose the format first

Price matters less here than shape, so start by deciding how you carry your kit. All three formats appear at the cheap end of our table, so this is not a choice you have to buy your way into.

The three padel bag formats and who each suits.

  • Racket bag (paletero)

    Carries
Two to three rackets plus kit, in a long shaped body
    Best for
Players who drive to the club and want rackets protected and separated.
  • Backpack

    Carries
One or two rackets, clothes, shoes
    Best for
Commuting to the court on foot, by bike or on public transport.
  • Holdall

    Carries
    Kit first, rackets second
    Best for
Players who change at the club, or who want one bag for gym and padel.

What the specifications mean

Capacity is stated either as a racket count or in litres, and occasionally not at all — one maker here publishes external dimensions but no capacity, and we left the cell blank rather than convert one into the other.

Thermal is a lined compartment, not insulation across the whole bag. Where a maker does not claim it, we have not assumed it: the cheaper bags in the table mostly say nothing, and saying nothing is not the same as having it.

Shoe pocket means a separate, usually vented compartment. It is the feature that stops a damp pair of court shoes sharing space with your clothes, and it is worth more day to day than an extra racket slot.

Carry is how the bag attaches to you: backpack straps, a shoulder strap, or both. Several racket bags offer both, which is the flexible option if you sometimes walk from the car park and sometimes from the bus.

On prices and availability

Every price here is the manufacturer's recommended price from its own European store, taken undiscounted even where the maker was running a promotion on the day. Padel bags are discounted often, so check the current price before buying.

One practical note on finding these on Amazon: bag model codes change every season, and retailers frequently carry the previous season's reference. If the exact 2026 model is not listed, the prior year's version of the same line is usually the same bag in different colours.

We do not test bags, so the picks above are justified by published specifications — thermal lining, shoe compartment, capacity and carry options — rather than by living out of one.

Questions about padel bags

Do I need a padel bag or will a backpack do?

Any bag that fits a racket will do at first — padel rackets are short enough to go in a normal rucksack diagonally. A padel bag earns its place through two details: a thermal compartment that keeps rackets out of the heat, and a separate vented pocket for wet shoes.

What is a thermal compartment for?

Heat is bad for a racket's core and for the pressure in your balls. A thermal-lined compartment slows down how fast the inside of the bag reaches the temperature of a car boot in August. It is the feature most worth paying for in southern Europe, and close to irrelevant if you walk to an indoor club.

What size padel bag should I buy?

Count how you travel. One racket and a change of clothes fits a backpack. Two rackets, shoes and a towel wants a racket bag or a holdall. The three-racket-plus formats are aimed at players who carry a spare and coaches, and are heavier to carry when only half full.

What is the difference between a racket bag and a holdall?

A racket bag (paletero) is the long, shaped bag built around rackets, usually with a thermal main compartment. A holdall is a general sports duffle that happens to fit rackets, usually with more room for clothing and less racket-specific structure. Backpacks sit between the two and are the easiest to carry on a bike or public transport.

Are expensive padel bags worth it?

The jump from about €50 to €110 in our table buys thermal lining, a dedicated shoe pocket and better carry options rather than more space. Whether that is worth it depends almost entirely on how you get to the court and how hot it gets where you play.
