A small problem with a cheap fix

Glass-walled indoor courts trap humidity, and padel's rallies are long. The result is sweat running down the inside of the forearm to exactly the place you are holding the racket. The grip goes slick, and slick grips lose matches in small, annoying ways: a mis-hit smash, a racket that turns in the hand on a volley.

A wristband is a few euros against that. It is not sophisticated equipment and there is not much to choose between the products — which is worth saying honestly on a page that compares ten of them.

Fix the grip first

If your handle goes slippery, the first thing to change is the overgrip, not the accessories. A dry-feel overgrip costs two or three euros, is designed for exactly this problem, and is what the professional tour uses. Wristbands help players who sweat heavily enough that a fresh grip still is not sufficient.

That is the honest order of operations, and it means many readers of this page should buy something from a different one.

Reading the table

Type — wristband, headband or a set. Eight of these ten are wristbands, and that ratio reflects the market rather than our selection: padel brands overwhelmingly do not make headbands.

Width is published by some makers and not others. Where it is stated it is useful, because width is the main difference between otherwise identical towelling bands.

Fabric is almost always cotton-polyester terry. The loops are what absorb; the synthetic content is what helps it dry between sessions.

Pack is single or pair, and it is where price comparisons live or die.

Headbands are almost absent

Worth stating plainly, because it explains the table's shape: searching the current accessory ranges of five major padel brands turned up no headbands at all. Caps and visors, yes. Headbands, none. Both headband entries here come from the single brand that still makes them, which is also why that brand appears three times.

If you want a headband specifically, the practical market is tennis brands rather than padel ones.

On the prices

Every figure is the maker's own undiscounted list price from its own European store. One colourway was showing a discount on the day, so we substituted the equivalent model that was not, rather than record a sale price as an RRP.

We do not test gear. The picks are justified by published width, fabric and pack size, and by price.

Questions about padel wristbands

Why do padel players wear wristbands?

To stop sweat running down the forearm onto the grip. Padel is often played indoors in enclosed glass courts where it gets humid, and a slick handle is the fastest way to lose control of a shot. A wristband intercepts the sweat before it reaches your hand.

Wristband or better overgrip?

Start with the overgrip: it is cheaper, it is what every professional changes regularly, and it addresses the grip directly. A wristband is the second line of defence for players whose forearms genuinely stream — the two work together rather than as alternatives.

What width of wristband should I buy?

Narrow bands of around 5 to 8 cm are the default and stay out of the way. Wider bands absorb more and are what you want if you are changing a soaked band mid-match, at the cost of a warmer forearm. Not every maker publishes a width, so the column has gaps.

Do padel brands make headbands?

Barely. We checked the accessory catalogues of Bullpadel, Nox, Siux, StarVie and Adidas's padel store and found no headbands at all — caps and visors, but nothing for the forehead. Both headbands in our table come from the one brand that does make them.

Are wristbands sold singly or in pairs?

Both, and it is the detail that makes prices hard to compare. A €6 single and a €12 pair are the same price per band. The pack column in the table states what each maker says, and it is worth reading before the price.
